Programmes:
All updated programmes have now been emailed out. They won't appear on here due to GDPR.
Arrival Times:
Ensure that you arrive at the start of your class. The only exception to this is if you are performing in the other venue at a similar time. This will allow us to make slight changes if needed.
Transport:
All information for transport grants is here: http://manxfolkawards.weebly.com/transport.html
Please note these will be covered in full but may not be given until next financial year. Parking is extremely limited and we do not have spaces in the Youth Arts Centre for parents to watch so bus/coach travel is recommended.
Risk Assessments:
Risk assessments for the Folk Awards can be found here: http://manxfolkawards.weebly.com/risk-assessment.html
Please note that you must read and sign them. An extra consideration this year may be the roadworks taking place nearby, however these are due to be finished before the Folk Awards start. Risk assessing travel to and from the venues is your responsibility and pre-site visits can be arranged before hand.
Single Use Plastics:
We are going to be a single use plastic free event from 2109!
There will be places where you can refill your water bottles in all 3 venues and we encourage children to bring as little single use plastic in their lunches as possible, if you are staying for lunch. We can also recycle water bottles, lids and crisp packets if you have any of those.
Lunch:
If your group want to stay for lunch on any of the days please email to let us know your numbers and we will allocate you a space.
Manx National Anthem
At the end of the day we will all sing the first verse of the Manx National Anthem. If you need a quick reminder before the competitions please click the following link: https://wiki1.sch.im/wiki/pages/r007n3r0v/Manx_National_Anthem.html?
Parents:
There is no room for parents to watch in the Douglas Youth Arts Centre. However, there is space for parents to watch in the Rosemount Church. Stewards will direct parents upstairs to watch as downstairs is reserved solely for performers. Please check programmes to see which classes are taking place in which venue. There will be limited room in the Methodist Hall in St Johns on the Thursday.
Accompanists:
John and Cathy Rhodes are available to play for all Manx dancing competitions on Monday and Wednesday. If you require something specific please contact us so we can put you in touch with John and Cathy before the competition.
If you require someone to play the piano for your choirs, please make sure you bring a copy of the music and email us to let us know what you require. Jo and Chloe are available to do this.
Choirs
Choirs will be performing on the stage in the church. If you want to conduct your choir you will be able to do so from the front row of the pews or the aisle. If you don't want to conduct then that's fine too!
Prizes/Folktastic Award
For 2019 we are excited to announce that once again the Malcolm Scott Dickinson Trust have provided three £50 vouchers to be awarded for the most outstanding performance from a Primary school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - the Folktastic Prizes! This will not necessarily be the 'best' performance - but it will celebrate effort and achievement. The daily winner of the 2019 Folktastic Award will be picked at the end of each day.
