Manx Tails by Dennis W Turner
If you should see a little, furry animal one day
And you are with a Manx man just be careful what you say.
One nearly bit my head off when I said I'd seen a rat (R.A.T!!)
He said 'It's called a longtail, you must remember that!'
But if you see a little creature running round your house,
You don't call it a short tail, you simply say a mouse.
The Manx have funny names for little animals like that;
I saw one with no tail at all! THEY call the thing a CAT!!

The Fairy Bridge by Nance Cain
Do I believe in fairies at the *Ballaglonney bridge?
Fancy askin' me that! Why its been the privilege
Of all Manx folks and others, since a long, long while ago,
To pay respect to the lil' people as they're passin' to and fro.
I'm wonderin' if Manx fairies would ever understan'
Such 'Englified' sayings like "Good night little man!"
For such "*Oie vie doinney beg" or even "*Fastyr mie"
Would be bound to bring good luck to any passer by.
Of course, there's some who say that fairies are not in.
Scholars and 'scien-tifickers', and all such other kin.
Aw *boghtnid! There was fairies there before the like was born.
With their revels and their dances from twilight on to dawn.
And me mother, when a girl, had seen one in Glen Maye.
And she held on to that tale up to her dyin' day.
Are they ever seen at present? Just by the favoured few.
And at the crossin' next time, that might perhaps be you!
Pronounciation:
* ballaglonnah
* ee vie dunya beg
* faster my
* borknid
